ARE YOU GOING BALD?
We love baldies here at BarberShopCo.
Some of our favourite men keep their head polished and hair free – the Rock, Jason Statham, Monty Betham, Bruce Willis, Samuel L Jackson, Jono Pryor, even the Dalai Lama. The list of men making baldness cool gets longer each year.
You might be bald by your own choice or by nature’s choice. Either way, your chrome dome needs just as much TLC as a full head of hair.
Here's how to get a smooth result when you're going bald, whether you like a bit of stubble or cueball shine.
OPTION 1: DIY Clipper Shave
A clipper shave is a good option if you like a bit of stubble on your head.
- If your hair is long on top, use a hair tie or clip to keep it out of the way for now.
- Use your non-clipper hand to pull the skin tight in the area you are shaving, then to sweep loose hair away and feel your scalp for remaining hair as you go.
- Hold the clippers with the blade near the thumb side of your hand and start with the sideburns. Work from the bottom up and move the clipper in a smooth motion, keeping the blade flush to your scalp. Brush any loose hair off your clippers regularly to keep them clean.
- Switch to an underhand grip with the clipper blade facing away from your thumb, which allows you to shave smoothly from the back upwards towards your crown.
- Change back to an overhand grip and shave the top of your head moving from the forehead backwards. With or against the grain? This depends on which direction you are shaving.
- To get a really smooth finish, once you have removed most of the hair, finish by shaving gently from all different angles. You can use the edge of the clipper blade to gently go over any dips or contours in your head.
- Use a mirror to check for missed spots, especially around the neck and crown.
- Wash your scalp with a gentle shampoo to remove any loose hairs, then towel dry and finish with a few drops of hair and scalp oil.
